A couple of days and a night away and it was great.
We stayed in a beautiful boutique hotel in Brighton called The White House - a chic little place in Kemp Town that was perfect for the three of us. We got the suite, which is never a bad thing, which included a mini balcony (see the pic).
Ava encountered the seaside for the first time: she loved pebbles and spent ages playing with them. She was also fascinated by the carousel.
New word of the trip was: "fish", after a trip to the Sealife Centre. Very interested in aquatic animals!
More tomorrow on our little sojourn...
If I told most people what I'd been up to today, they'd think I had one of the coolest jobs in the world.
This afternoon/evening, I spent the best part of 5 hours in Leicester Square at the Spider-Man 3 premiere, interviewing the general madness of fans who had been queueing up for hours, plus the stars of the movie themselves, along with assorted other celebrities.
And yeah, I guess having a brief chat on camera (although thankfully you can only hear my croaky voice, rather than seeing me) with people such as Tobey Maguire, James Franco, Sam Raimi and Topher Grace is pretty cool, but god it's knackering.
Also, you end up effectively asking the same questions over and over again, because you're trying to get similar conversation strands, when it gets edited.
To be honest, the movie's stars are often the most boring - you can have far more fun with the other people there. Noel Fielding of Mighty Boosh fame was entertaining, while Alan Carr from The Friday Night Project had me in stitches, which I don't think is particularly professional, but I couldn't help it.
I'm not knocking what I get paid to do - hey I could be cleaning loos for a living, but sometimes, I can think of better ways of spending an evening (like with my daughter and girlfriend).
And speaking of my daughter, she has had a quite momentous day today. Firstly, she finally cut a new tooth. First top one and first for months. She's been unhappy for a few days, so hopefully this might make her feel a little better.
Secondly, we heard a new word from her - cheese! Brilliant. Gwyneth
Paltrow and Chris Martin's daughter Apple says "houmous", ours says
"cheese". I know which one I'd go with!
If you put together a time capsule today, what would you put in it?

Oh, this is one of those questions that I should probably think about really hard, but in reality, I'd want to put things in that reminded me of life in 2007 and that are highly likely to vanish in, say, 30 years.
Soooooo......
- A copy of Grazia or Heat
- A music CD, like Amy Winehouse or Jarvis Cocker
- A daily newspaper
- A pic of me, Ceri, Ava and Beth today (I'm not suggesting we'll vanish in 30 years)
I'm sure there are lots more things, but nothing else springs to mind at the moment...
When people say they're tired, check to find out if they've got kids. If they have, then sympathise like crazy. It's impossible to understand how absolutely knackered you can get when you have little ones
Ava has decided to wake up every morning at 5am and not go back to sleep. Ceri's finding it tougher than me, but we are both shattered. A lie-in now constitutes her not waking till 7am. Joy!
She's still gorgeous though...
Who would you like to kiss under the mistletoe?

Apart from my gorgeous girlfriend Ceri (who actually vetoed mistletoe this year, because the berries were liable to drop and are poisonous, which isn't very sensible with Ava around), this is a tough one...
I wouldn't normally call myself particularly obvious, but Angelina Jolie is the one who springs to mind. She does have amazing lips, although she is exceedingly weird into the bargain.
Admittedly there are lots of others (Abi Harding from the Zutons is one), I'm not going to list loads. Just a bit wrong...
Ah, it's one of those actually quite nice Sunday mornings. We ate a scrummy Shepherd's Pie last night, rounded off with an Apple & Plum Crumble, both made by my own fair hand. I guess I must be feeling better if I can make and consume food like that!
This morning poor Ava has got a stinker of a cold. Streaming nose and really congested - poor thing. Just not fair!
I've been listening to the quite wonderful new
Amy Winehouse album - just fantastic. Rehab, the first single is great,
but my favourite is the title track Back To Black. Whatever you've seen
in the press about her, forget it. She makes superb music...
