QotD: Top 5 in '06 - Books
What are your top 5 books of 2006?
I know I should be able to rattle off a load of great books, but none spring to mind. I know I've started quite a few that didn't really "do it for me".
I really enjoyed Heat by Bill Buford - his account of dropping out of his job as an esteemed writer and editor and immersing himself in the world of professional cooking. He travels to Italy to spend time in a tiny little butchers, just to get the thrill of handling meat - if you're not at all into food, then this book would do nothing for you, but I thought it was just fantastic!
Crikey - what else have I read? That's the problem with having a new daughter - my life has gone on hold. All that time I usually spend reading has vanished doing something unaccountably domestic.
I read loads on holiday, but obviously it didn't stay with me for long, because I can't remember any of it. Kate Mosse's Labyrinth was widely touted as being great, and I enjoyed it, but it didn't really rank as one of the best of the year.
To be honest, I can't think of any more, so I'll have to leave it with one and hope I think of more later on tonight!
